On the way to Mandalay, drop by at Snake Pagoda ( Yatana Laba Muni Sutaungpyae Muei Pagoda (at Paleik township) where on top of the image were tree large pythons and from that time on, the place became known far and wide in the country as the Snake Pagoda. Visit to Mahamuni Pagoda which holds one of Myanmar’s most revered Buddha images, a 4-metre-high statue covered with a thick layer of gold leaf applied by generations of pilgrims seeking merit. It is also known as the Phaya Gyi, the most ancient Buddha image in Myanmar. Lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, visit to Royal Mandalay Palace in the heart of Mandalay city. Mandalay Palace was the first palace to be built in Mandalay, by King Mindon in 1861. Then excursion at Amarapura where you can study silk weaving handlooms, bronze casting, stone & wood carving and silver smith. Relax at U Bain bridge made of teak and spanning Taungthaman lake, 1.2 kilo meter just outside of the town. Dinner at local restaurant. Enjoy night scene at Mandalay Hill. During British occupation, the town becomes the chief city and capital of the Southern Shan States. Taunggyi’s modern development began in 1894, when the British moved their administrative offices from Maing Thauk (For Stedman) on the eastern shores of Inle Lake. Visit local market and lunch at local restaurant. Drive to Nyaung Shwe, 19 miles away from Taunggyi. One the way, excursion at Shwe Nyaung. Check in hotel. Free and easy overnight at Nyaung Shwe.
